Sounds like a ridiculously fun job, Ryan. We have a loan of a 1920-26 marriage register where they save future researchers the trouble by having a field for responses as to whether the groom can read and whether the bride can read.

I'd bet the primary source documents that drive these literacy estimates are marriage registers. You can envision some poor grad student dutifully visiting every parish in a province, jotting down the number of full signatures and X's in the records.

Actually, that sounds like a pretty fun summer.

I always imagined that if trees could talk we might have less of a deforestation problem on our hands. Then again, people are jerks so maybe that wouldn't help.

So many views on this post? Must've had a surge in visits. Nothing else to read on the internets, I guess.

Justin: glad you're blogging again.

Ryan: maybe you can write comically about bike racing?

An ambitious list, as usual!

I'm so sorry to hear about your guinea pig, and about your Grandma. But I hope 2012 is a wonderful year for you. See you soon.

Ryan, I think I neglected my writing as I worked on other things. I need to get my endurance training for writing (obvious, as I start one extra blog post every month that doesn't make it online). Then I need to pick one (paying) subject and see it to completion, especially now that I am not taking professional courses, doing internships and no excessive overtime at work.

I suppose it's too late to claim I was only trying to discourage your competition?
